Dr. Antonello Bonci is the President, Chief Scientific Officer & Partner at GIA Chicago. Before moving to GIA Miami, he served for nearly a decade at the National Institute of Health (NIH) as Scientific Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Between 1999 and 2010, he was Professor-in-Residence in the Department of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and held the Howard J. Weinberg Endowed Chair in Addiction Research while also serving as Associate Director for Extramural Affairs at the Ernest Gallo Clinic and Research Center.


Over the last 5 years, Dr. Bonci and his collaborators worldwide have successfully pioneered the translation of non-invasive brain stimulation such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), from the preclinical stage to the clinic, to treat cocaine use disorders and other types of addiction.

A Certified Addictions Counselor with a bachelor’s degree in social work from Winona State University in Minnesota and a master’s degree in Human Services Counseling (with an emphasis on addictions) from the National Louis University in Evanston, IL., Terry Shapiro is an expert in Addiction Treatment. With over 25 years of experience working in addiction and behavioral health - Terry began his career as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor; has previously served as an Employee Assistance Counselor for Amtrak Railroad and then as the Executive Director at the Council for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services in Tennessee as well as Hazelden Foundation’s Chicago location... Throughout the years, Terry Shapiro has extensively presented at national and regional conferences, conducted countless interventions, and provided numerous print and broadcast interviews on addiction treatment - During his time working in Bogota, Colombia, Terry saw a need and implemented addiction prevention programs in schools and provided counseling to the local youth and their families. An avid baseball fan, Terry even operated a baseball academy in Colombia and was also a scout for the world-famous Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs. Nowadays Terry is a ‘social animal’ and enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three children and two boxers, Luna and Maya. A Personal Note from Terry Shapiro… “I believe in divine intervention, I strive to build lasting relationships and to help people and families find recovery.  Being in recovery means we have been given the blessing to live a second life in one lifetime and helping others is what I love most."

Dr. Virgilio Arenas is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with a special focus in addiction psychiatry. Dr. Arenas obtained his degree from the Universidad Anahuac Escuela De Medicina in 1997 and completed his residency training in 2002 with the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Arenas worked as the Medical Program Director for the Northwestern University Addiction Psychiatry Training Program in Chicago and has been involved in a variety of research projects related to substance abuse, mental illnesses, and other medical conditions. He has extensive work with military veterans, is a consultant for professional athletes, and teaches a variety of substance abuse topics at Loyola medical school in Chicago. Dr. Arenas is also board-certified as a Medical Review Officer. Gayl Monto is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the State of Illinois. She is a former therapist where she specialized in the treatment of adults and adolescents with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, and other mental health challenges. Ms. Monto has worked in private practice, community mental health, substance abuse treatment, adventure therapy, as well as residential and outpatient clinical settings. As a decisive and passionate advocate for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatment, she is the TMS clinical consultant in Chicago that educates, engages, and promotes the effectiveness, application, and utilization of TMS in clinical practices. Understanding the neuroscience, clinical implications, and successful personal outcomes of TMS is one of her goals in helping others in recovery. Ms. Monto lives in Chicago, IL and has 3 adult daughters, a son-in-law, and a “grand”-dog. She received her Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and her Bachelors degrees in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Michigan. Gayl is an active supporter of the University of Michigan’s Addiction Center, Department of Psychiatry.

Kylie Stoops is an enthusiastic administrative professional with a reputation for being driven, organized, and efficient. Kylie completed both her Bachelor and Master of Health Administration from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. In her professional career, Kylie has worked in multiple levels of care in both mental health and substance abuse facilities where she has obtained experience in various departments such as general administration, revenue cycle management and finance, human resources, compliance, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). At GIA Healthcare, Kylie serves in multiple departments including human resources, finance, and general administration. In 2022, Kylie transferred to GIA’s Chicago branch where she oversees the daily office operations and TMS treatments. Kylie is certified as a BrainsWay Deep TMS Operator and works closely with clients at GIA Chicago to assist with treating a variety of mental health issues.

Jessica Edelstein-Montero has been working in the field of substance abuse and mental health for over seven years. At age15 she moved to Puerto Rico and lived there for the next 20 years. Jessica has studied Social Work and is a Certified Event Interventionist. She is a wife and mother to two handsome boys with Florida as a home for over the past10 years.
